“All of us were born originals.  Some of us will die as copies”
It is a common belief that if we study successful leaders and model ourselves after them, then we in turn will become successful leaders too.  However, in this industrial and organizational sociological presentation given by Chief Cochran, we see how it is more important to become an “authentic leader” as opposed to just a copy.  Chief Cochran discusses in depth five areas that an authentic leader should focus on:

  • Your Life Story:  Knowing how to learn from your life story and when to share it with others.
  • Practicing Values and Principles: It is very easy to list values, but difficult to live by them.
  • Balancing Motives:  It is very important to understand what drives you to do what you do.
  • Building Your Support Team: You should always maintain mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Integrated Life:  Staying Grounded.
